You Assume!
"Never assume"! That is what I have heard some people say. They say "you assume" in response to your logical, evidence-based deductive reasoning. But think about it for a minute. Doesn't everyone assume at least some things in life? In fact, is it even possible to not make certain assumptions about at least some things in life? Hey, are you "omniscient", knowing everything? Is a person saying to you "you assume" actually claiming to be the Almighty God and to know everything?
This brings up the basic idea of assumptions that people make in their thinking. Back in philosophy class in college, you might have heard the professor talk about "postulates". There are such basic postulates or ideas which you must assume to be true before you can perform deductive reasoning on the information available to you in the world. You must assume that "A = A", "A + B" = "B +A", "A +B = C" and many other things. These assumptions in turn become the basis for your deductive reasoning processes.
It is obviously not wrong to assume things. Nevertheless, the things you assume should be based on truth and not falsehood. (As an example, if you were to assume that the Earth was flat, then this would be a false assumption.)
In the spiritual world, you must make certain assumptions as well. You did not exist before the beginning of the world and, (unlike God), you do not know everything, (although some people, for example atheists, act as if they were God Almighty). If you did know everything, then of course you would be God, since only God knows everything. Do you assume that you are God? This then would be yet another assumption. You assume!
The atheist nevertheless does make such an assumption, as strange as it might sound. You see, the atheist says that he or she KNOWS that there is no God. For the atheist to make such a statement means that one of the following three cases must therefore be true: (A) The atheist believes that he or she is God himself and therefore knows everything, including knowing for sure that there is no God. (This idea would of course make no sense whatsoever.) (B) The atheist assumes that there is no God, despite the great evidence that God has provided to the contrary, or (C) The atheist assumes that there is in fact a God and yet hates God. He or she denies God's existence in order to live a sin-filled life without feeling guilty for such sin.
The Bible says that the atheist is a "fool". It is very foolish to believe that you know everything and so know that you are God and know that God does not exist. It is very foolish to deny the great amount of evidence in this universe affirming that God in fact exists. It is also very foolish to hate God and therefore to lie to yourself about the existence of God just because you want to live a life filled with sin. Yes, the atheist is indeed a very foolish person!
Perhaps you are not as foolish as an atheist. Perhaps you do not dare to assume, as does the atheist, that God does not exist. Nevertheless, are you a "practical atheist"? By this I mean that you know that God exists, yet live as if He did not, just so that you could live a life filled with sin and rebellion against God.
The Bible says that the Great White Throne Judgment is coming for you, a very great judgment at that. After you die, all of your sins, every one of them that you have ever committed, will be read to you from God's record books. You will stand before God and God will read out your sins. In that day you will have no excuse for rejecting Jesus and for living a life of sin and rebellion against God.
After God reads out all of your sins, you will then be cast into the Lake of Fire where you will burn night and day for all eternity. Pretending that it will not happen to you is as foolish as an atheist pretending that God does not exist. No, you will still stand before God in that day to be judged, whether you choose to believe it will happen to you or not. Judgment is coming!
How can you escape from the judgment of God? There is only one way to escape. You must come to Jesus so that He can cover your sins with His precious blood. Jesus was God but became a man so that He could die for your sins. Jesus was sinless. Jesus shed His blood on a Cross 2,000 years ago. Only Jesus can save you from the punishment by God for your sins.
Trust Jesus today. He will save you and give you a new life in Him. Jesus will also give you a mansion in Heaven for all eternity. Why not trust Jesus to forgive your sins? Hell is very hot. An eternity in Heaven is so much better. Trust Jesus today. Then get into a good Fundamentalist Baptist Church and live for Christ, not for sin. May God bless you as you put Jesus and the Bible first!
